Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department conducted a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) on the South Tacoma Groundwater Protection District (STGPD) and found that people living near the STGPD experience higher rates of certain health conditions, like asthma and cancer, compared to the larger Pierce County population. Further, South Tacoma has been identified as a community overburdened by air pollution. The HIA resulted in many recommendations for mitigating these health disparities, including planting trees. Come learn from Health Department staff about the relationship between trees and your health.
This project was funded by the Tacoma Pierce-County Health Department and Chambers-Clover Watershed Council in conjunction with the City of Lakewood.
