In partnership with Pierce County Parks with funding from the Washington Department of Natural Resources, the Foothills Rails-to-Trails Coalition is installing 200+ trees within select areas along a 20,000-foot stretch of the Foothills Trail between the East Puyallup and McMillin Trailheads. This area is currently void of tree cover and has sections dominated by invasive Himalayan blackberry. We are recruiting and organizing volunteers for the extensive tree planting effort. This event will include hands-on training about trees, tree care, and their importance in heat and stormwater reduction. This project will have lasting benefits to trail users by providing shade, improving wildlife habitat, and enhancing overall trail conditions.
