A Conversation with Jerry Franklin, as Interviewed by Clay Antieau

Short bio:  Born in Waldport Oregon in 1936. Jerry Franklin grew up in Camas, Washington.  Forest management degrees (BS, MS) from Oregon State University) and PhD in botany and soils from Washington State University.  Worked as Research Forester and Chief Plant Ecologist for USDA Forest Service for 30 years and Professor of Forest Ecosystems at University of Washington for 33 years.  Authored over 600 articles and books; recent book: "Ecological Forest Management" (Waveland Press, 2018). Primary interests: structure and function of natural forest ecosystems; management policies and practices on public forest lands.  

About the Interviewer: Clay Antieau M.S., Ph.C. is a Horticulturist and Botanist offering unique abilities and perspectives in restoration, environmental education, and science communication. He's been employed with Seattle Public Utilities since 2000 and is a long-time Instructor and Advisor with the University of Washington’s Professional and Continuing Education Certificate Program in Wetland Science and Management. He's a WNPS Arthur R. Kruckeberg Fellow, Past-President of the WNPS Board of Directors, and past Chapter Chair of the Puget Sound Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society; as well as Past-President of the Northwest Chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration.  Clay currently provides service to WNPS on the Conservation Committee, and the Financial Advisory Committee, as well as ongoing workshop programs.
